How To Connect Your Mac With PPPoE Connection?

Before going into the major steps, let’s understand what is PPPoE connection. Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet or PPPoE, as it is fondly called, is a type of connection which helps a computer or laptop to connect to the internet with the help of single DSL line or cable modem over the Ethernet. In this connection, all the computer shares the same Ethernet for connection.

 If you want to connect your Mac with PPPoE connection type, then you need to follow these steps. Some of these steps may be little advance for you. In that case, you can ask for assistance from apple computer support. Before starting the step, get the username and password and DNS address. Also check that the modem is on and is well-connected to the internet.
  • Go to Apple Menu and select System Preferences
  • Look for Network and select it. You will see a plus(+) sign. Click on it to include a new interface.
  • Choose ‘PPPoE’ and select Ethernet from the Ethernet menu. Click on Create.
  • It will prompt for username and password. Type it as given by your ISP. If you want, you can Save the Password.
  • Now, go to TCP/IP tab and select PPP or manually from ‘Configure IPv4’ pop-up menu. If you don’t know what to select, then a reliable Apple computer technical support can help you choose.
  • In case of static IP address, enter it on the IP address field.
  • Go to DNS tab and click on the + sign and type the DNS server provided by ISP. Save the settings by click on Apply Now.
